Vaso ‘Psychopath’ Bakocevic: ‘I don’t beat no one for free no more’

The always entertaining and exciting Vaso Bakocevic took time and stopped by for an short interview. We spoke about plenty of subjects, about UFC’s debut in Zagreb and his awkward fans encounterings amongst them. 26-year old fighter from Montenegro never disappoints, whether inside or outside the ring, and again it hasn’t been different.

FF: We know you’ve been probably asked this question about 1.000 times, but still, for those who don’t know you yet, please introduce yourself and tell us how you got your nickname ‘Psychopath’

I still don’t quite know why they call me like that, because I’m such a nice guy. Probably because I like to hurt people and also like getting myself hurt, in a awkward way it turns me on, of course not sexually, so maybe that’s the answer but people say when you get to know me I’m such a nice and funny guy…that’s what they say I dont know.

What was your most awkward situation with encountering with fans?

There are fans who love you and support you, and there are those motherfuckers who hope you drop dead, but in the end they always pay to see me fight. I had and always do have crazy situations with them specially over social media, like this guy who wants me to beat him up just like that with no reason, he likes me so much and he just wanted it, and I was like sure you sicko, but it’s gonna cost you, I don’t beat no one for free no more that’s for sure.

What’s your thoughts about UFC’s debut in Zagreb?

I think it’s great for the fighters from the region and also for the sport, UFC is the biggest organization and it’s a huge thing that they are coming here.

Do you have any offers on the table for that event?

Nope, my manager tried to put me in that card, but the problem was I had 2 losses in a row, so maybe some other time when I get back on my feet with some wins.

You are familiar with UFC’s fighers, since you have fought Piotr Hallman at WFC 17. You lost the title fight with Hallman, and he got the call from UFC. You think should you defeat the Polish fighter it would earn you a shot at the big league?

We fought 4 years ago and I lost to doctor stoppage via cut, he ended up there and I wish him all the best. The biggest thing that can get you to the UFC is to have a good record, wins in a row and to be a showman because it’s all for the fans in the end this is entertainment and they pay the bills. So thats what the UFC is looking for.

In 2015 you had 7 fights, you like to remain active. What’s you plan for 2016?

Yes, my current record is 7 in a year and it sucks, because I want more but can’t, because the weight cuts are killing me in the brain. So I’m gonna find a solution that works we’ll see, maybe be on a strict diet (heyyy a great idea) but I’m a idiot so we’ll see.

In the begining of March you had a scheduled fight at SBC8 for light weight title with Leo Zulic. After having problems with your weight, you did a catchweight fight with Roberto Soldic, which you lost in 3rd round after middle kick in the liver. Can you tell us how it all went down?

3 days before weigh-ins I went to the hospital, because I got sick during weight cut. I canceled the fight and called the promoter to ask can I fight at another division and Roberto came and beat me. I don’t ever make exuses and I will learn from this and come back stronger and smarter (this other thing I don’t think so)

Few days ago, news broke out that WFC is coming back with event in London. Will we see you there defend your belt for the first time?

I hope not, because I like my shiny belt and it looks good on my wall… so I don’t want to risk losing it (laughs). Of course I’m gonna fight are you crazy what kind of a question is this o my God (laughs)

You trained in Chechnya at Akhmat Fight Club, which is a part of KHK MMA Team in ownership of Bahrainian Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and is planning to make a world’s biggest MMA team. We saw the likes of UFC’s Frankie Edgar and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Alex Soto among others fighters who train there, and trainers like John Kavanagh and Renzo Gracie. Can you tell us more about that?

I was in Thailand preparing for my fight and then went to Grozny with a fighter of my, taking him to fight on ACB event and of course I took time to train with thoose beasts. The best fighters come from that country believe me. Trainings war crazy and the fighters are just awesome.

At 26 years of age you have plenty experience in fights. You’ve done 33 professional bouts with 22 wins and 11 losses. What’s you career goals (besides fighting in UFC)?

Actually I got 34, you forgot my one draw I have…I just enjoy this life and love my job, I ended up in the biggest European organization and one day I’m gonna end up in the worlds best, if not I’m gonna be a fat happy guy fighting every other weekend, because this is what I love.

Not long ago, Mike Tyson shared a clip of you fighting at Polish KSW in a bit controversial matter before and after the fight. Can you tell us more about fighting in Poland, that hit of Anzhiev after the finish and Tyson sharing the clip?

The thing is I talked a lot of trash before that fight like every other time and got my ass whooped this time. People are like ‘that’s what you get bla bla’ fucking idiots! I talk like that and act all the time and will for the rest of my life, win or lose I don’t give a fuck so fuck all these motherfuckers. But honestly the video is awesome, it was done by a real pro and I want to thank him, because the world saw it and there is no such thing as a bad commercial. Even Mike Tyson liked it and shared it as you said, hey how can that shit be bad you tell me (laughs)
